Pomegranate extract may prevent prostate cancer or slow its growth, if results of lab experiments conducted at the University of Wisconsin in Madison translate to real-world benefits.
Dr. Hasan Mukhtar and his colleagues note in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Edition that pomegranates are high in polyphenolic compounds, making its juice higher in antioxidant activity than red wine and green tea.

Cod liver oil may be good for you, but it sure tastes awful. Old-fashioned fish oil, usually in pill form, has regained its popularity as a health supplement now that the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, found primarily in fish oils, are rapidly being confirmed.
Food manufacturers are jumping into the fray with a range of products, from salad dressing to waffles that are supplemented with omega-3s. Known primarily for keeping the heart and blood vessels fit, these fats also improve mental health. Previous studies have linked low levels of the fatty acids to higher rates of depression, bipolar disorder and suicide.

The following is a “healthy food hot list” consisting of the 29 food that will give you the biggest nutritional bang for you caloric buck, as well as decrease your risk for deadly illnesses like cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Along with each description is a suggestion as to how to incorporate these power-foods into your diet.
FRUITS
01. Apricots
The Power: Beta-carotene, which helps prevent free-radical damage and protect the eyes. The body also turns beta-carotene into vitamin A, which may help ward off some cancers, especially of the skin. One apricot has 17 calories, 0 fat, 1 gram of fiber. Snacks on them dried, or if you prefer fresh, buy when still firm; once they soften, they lose nutrients.
02. Avocados
The Power: Oleic acid, an unsaturated fat that helps lower overall cholesterol and raise levels of HDL, plus a good dose of fiber. One slice has 81 calories, 8 grams of fat and 3 grams of fiber. Try a few slices instead of mayonnaise to dress up your next burger.

Scientists have produced evidence that the eating disorder anorexia nervosa is linked to disrupted brain chemistry.
They have shown a form of the disorder is associated with an alteration of the activity of serotonin – a chemical linked to mood and anxiety.
The University of Pittsburgh team hope their work could lead to the development of new drugs and psychological treatments.

Pfizer and two partners received approval from a scientific advisory panel Thursday for an inhaled form of insulin, staying ahead of Eli Lilly and Co. and others in the race to market an alternative to injections that could generate $1 billion in annual sales.
The recommendation by a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel came despite questions about use of the inhalable drug by people who have lung disease or have been exposed to secondhand smoke.
